Glasgow (Rajeev Sharma): A restaurant in Glasgow has apologised and pledged to update its branding after Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain raised concerns over what she said was an inaccurate depiction of the map of India at the establishment. The issue surfaced during a visit by members of the Indian boxing team following their successful campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026.
Lovlina, who hails from Assam, noticed that the map printed on the restaurant’s napkins and displayed in its branding did not include India’s North-Eastern region. A video capturing her remarks was widely circulated on social media, drawing significant public attention.
Boxer Voices Concern
In the video, Lovlina politely told the restaurant management that the omission of the North-East was upsetting, particularly for people from the region. She clarified that her intention was not to offend anyone but to highlight the importance of representing India’s map correctly.
Her comments quickly resonated online, with many social media users supporting her stand and calling for the restaurant to rectify the design.
Restaurant Expresses Regret
Responding to the controversy, Mister Singh’s India – The Home of Curry issued a statement apologising for the incorrect map. The restaurant said it deeply respects its Indian roots and never intended to hurt the sentiments of the Indian community.
The management confirmed that it would immediately redesign its logo and other materials to display the correct map of India. It also described hosting the Indian boxing contingent after their Commonwealth Games success as a matter of great pride.
Social Media Page Disappears
Soon after the apology was made public, the restaurant’s official Instagram account was no longer visible. While the account appears to have been removed or deactivated, the restaurant has not clarified whether it was taken down voluntarily or for another reason.
Team India Had Visited After Historic Boxing Campaign
The Indian boxing squad had visited the restaurant to celebrate an outstanding performance at the Commonwealth Games, where the team secured 10 medals, including seven gold and three silver medals.
Although the visit was intended as a celebration, Lovlina’s observation shifted attention to the map displayed by the restaurant. The management’s swift apology and assurance to make corrections have since become a major talking point surrounding the incident.
