Delhi (Rajeev Sharma): A tragic fire incident in Shahdara claimed the lives of nine residents after flames engulfed a residential building in the Vivek Vihar locality during the early hours of Saturday.
According to officials, the blaze began before dawn and rapidly spread through multiple floors of the four-storey structure, particularly affecting upper-level flats. Emergency teams responded swiftly, with firefighters, police personnel, and disaster response units working together to control the situation and evacuate occupants.
Rescuers managed to pull out several individuals from the building, while a few injured persons were taken to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital for treatment. Authorities confirmed that the bodies of the deceased have been shifted to the mortuary, where identification procedures are ongoing.
Local representatives indicated that the fire may have been triggered by an electrical fault, though other possibilities are also being examined. The intensity of the blaze reportedly made escape difficult for some residents, leading to the high casualty count.
The Delhi Police has launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident and assess whether any safety violations contributed to the tragedy.
