Gurpreet Singh :- Amritsar: In a significant crackdown on drug smuggling, customs officials at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport have arrested a passenger for attempting to bring narcotics into the country. The arrest was made during routine security checks at the airport.

Authorities recovered approximately 964 grams of cannabis from the passenger, with an estimated market value of nearly ₹96 lakh. Officials described the seizure as a major success in efforts to prevent illegal drug trafficking through international routes.

According to preliminary findings, the passenger had arrived from Bangkok and had concealed the contraband inside four separate boxes containing food and confectionery items to avoid suspicion.

The smuggling attempt was detected through advanced passenger profiling and detailed baggage screening conducted by customs officials. Upon inspection, the concealed substance was discovered and immediately seized.

The accused has been taken into custody, and further investigation is in progress to determine possible links to a wider smuggling network. Authorities are also examining whether other individuals or channels are involved in the operation.
