Donald Trump Says Netanyahu Understands ‘Who Leads’ as Washington Prepares for Key Bilateral Talks

After Iran Truce, Trump Targets Allies, Revives Greenland Debate

Washington (Rajeev Sharma): US President Donald Trump has hinted that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could soon visit Washington for high-level discussions, while underscoring what he described as America’s leadership role in its relationship with Israel.

Speaking to the media, Trump said he shares a positive rapport with Netanyahu but remarked that the Israeli leader “knows who the boss is,” emphasising that the United States continues to play the central role in shaping strategic decisions between the two allies.

According to officials, both leaders recently spoke over the phone, during which Netanyahu congratulated Trump on the 250th anniversary of American Independence. The conversation also included discussions on strengthening bilateral cooperation, with both sides agreeing to hold an in-person meeting in the United States in the near future.

While the exact schedule has not been finalised, sources suggest the visit could take place after Trump’s international commitments, including the upcoming NATO summit. Israeli officials have indicated that logistical arrangements are still being worked out before confirming the dates.

The anticipated meeting comes against the backdrop of growing regional challenges, including tensions involving Iran, security concerns in Lebanon, and ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at maintaining stability in the Middle East. Although Washington and Tel Aviv remain close partners, reports suggest both governments have held differing views on certain recent developments.

Political observers believe the meeting could help reinforce coordination on defence, intelligence sharing and regional security. It is also expected to include discussions on trade, military cooperation and future diplomatic initiatives.

Trump also commented on the ongoing diplomatic engagement with Iran, claiming that communication channels remain open despite a temporary pause in negotiations. He suggested that discussions could resume once developments related to the funeral ceremonies of Iran’s former Supreme Leader conclude.

For Netanyahu, the proposed White House visit could carry domestic political significance as Israel moves closer to another election cycle. A meeting with the US President is expected to project continuity in the longstanding strategic partnership between the two countries.

Despite reports of occasional policy disagreements, both Washington and Tel Aviv have publicly reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close ties, with the upcoming meeting likely to focus on strengthening cooperation in an increasingly complex geopolitical environment.
