Dehradun (Rajeev Sharma): A sudden cloudburst in the Sahastradhara belt of Dehradun Tuesday triggered flash floods and landslides, leaving behind widespread damage and forcing emergency crews into action.
The heavy gush of water swept through houses, roadside shops and parked vehicles, while stretches of roads were washed away. Officials confirmed that two individuals have not been traced since the incident, and rescue agencies are racing against time to locate them.
Teams from the SDRF and NDRF have reached the disaster-hit sites and are assisting in evacuations as well as clearing debris. Authorities said the situation is under control but the scale of destruction will take time to fully assess.
This marks the second such calamity in Uttarakhand in recent weeks. On August 5, Dharali in Uttarkashi district witnessed a cloudburst that caused deadly flooding and landslides, displacing families and damaging key infrastructure.
Local residents described Tuesday night’s event as “unlike anything seen before,” with many recounting how the sudden roar of water forced them to flee their homes at short notice. The district administration has advised caution in flood-prone areas as rains are likely to continue for the next few days.
