Mumbai (Rajeev Sharma): The ongoing political confrontation between the Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena intensified on Saturday after senior UBT leader Sanjay Raut shared a cryptic social media post that many interpreted as an indirect attack on the rival faction.
The post carried a pointed message suggesting that while some individuals may resemble loyal companions, they fail the true test of loyalty. Accompanied by the phrase “Jai Maharashtra,” the post quickly gained traction online, triggering fresh political debate amid the escalating rivalry between the two camps.
The latest exchange follows remarks made by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during his party’s 60th foundation day celebrations, where he defended his 2022 rebellion against Uddhav Thackeray and claimed that public support had vindicated his decision. Addressing party workers, Shinde projected confidence in his leadership while taking a swipe at critics within the opposing faction.
Political tensions have further intensified with speculation surrounding “Operation Tiger,” amid claims that several Members of Parliament from the Uddhav Thackeray-led camp may shift allegiance to the Shinde faction. Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders have responded by initiating disciplinary proceedings against absent MPs, asserting that action will be pursued under the provisions of parliamentary rules and existing legal guidelines.
Meanwhile, Uddhav Thackeray has dismissed rumours of any merger with the Congress and reiterated his determination to protect the legacy of the Shiv Sena. Speaking at the party’s anniversary event, he accused political rivals of undermining democratic values and declared that he would rather relinquish his position than compromise the party’s identity.
As both factions continue to trade sharp political barbs, the battle for influence within Maharashtra’s political landscape appears set to intensify in the months ahead.
