Glasgow (Rajeev Sharma): India enjoyed another memorable day at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, with long-distance runner Gulveer Singh producing a remarkable performance to win a silver medal in the men’s 10,000m event. His podium finish added another chapter to India’s athletics success and helped the country’s medal tally climb to 12.
Gulveer crossed the finish line in 27:49.78, finishing behind Australia’s Ky Robinson, who claimed the gold medal. David Mullarkey of the Isle of Man secured the bronze after completing the race in third place. Gulveer’s achievement is being hailed as one of India’s finest performances in long-distance running at the Commonwealth Games.
Earlier, weightlifter Harjinder Kaur contributed another silver medal in the women’s 69kg category. She lifted a combined 227kg, including 101kg in the snatch and 126kg in the clean and jerk, to finish second. Canada’s Charlotte Simoneau took the gold with a record-breaking total of 240kg.
India’s boxers also strengthened the country’s medal prospects. Jadumani Singh advanced to the semifinals in the men’s competition, while Priya Ghanghas, Preeti Pawar, and Lovlina Borgohain progressed to the last four in their respective women’s categories. Since all semifinalists are guaranteed at least a bronze medal, India’s confirmed medal count at the Games has now increased to 16.
Not every result went India’s way on Tuesday. Swimmer Srihari Nataraj missed qualification for the men’s 100m backstroke final after placing sixth in his semifinal with a timing of 55.52 seconds.
In boxing, Kapil Pokhariya exited the men’s 90kg competition after losing his quarterfinal bout to Scotland’s Robert McNulty by unanimous decision, ending his campaign without a medal.
Meanwhile, promising high jumper Pooja narrowly missed out on advancing after failing to clear the 1.82-metre mark in her three attempts, bringing her competition to a close.
With medals continuing to come from athletics and weightlifting, and several boxers now assured of podium finishes, India’s campaign in Glasgow is gathering momentum as the competition enters its decisive stages.
