CHANDIGARH TEEN KILLING: SCHOOL STUDENT SHOT DEAD, ANOTHER CRITICALLY INJURED; THREE JUVENILE SUSPECTS DETAINED

Chandigarh (Naval Kishore): A violent clash involving school students turned deadly in Chandigarh’s Sector 22 late Thursday night, when three juvenile suspects allegedly riding a motorcycle opened fire on a group of minors, killing a 17-year-old boy and critically injuring another. An autorickshaw driver was also injured in the shooting.

The deceased was identified as Naitik, a resident of Sector 22. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kanwardeep Kaur confirmed that both the victims and the suspected shooters are school students. Police detained three suspects less than an hour after the incident.

According to police, the two groups had studied at the same school, but the victims had recently joined a school in Sector 32. Investigators are examining a possible connection between earlier confrontations and the fatal shooting.

Police said the groups had reportedly clashed around 4 pm in Sector 44. Another confrontation took place around 10:15 pm in Sector 34, where some boys allegedly recorded videos of those involved in the beating and uploaded them to Instagram to humiliate them. The sequence of events leading to the shooting in Sector 22 is now under investigation.

The incident has raised serious concerns about escalating violence among school students, the alleged use of firearms by juveniles and the role of social media in intensifying personal rivalries. A dispute among teenagers has now resulted in one death and left another young victim critically injured.

Police are investigating the motive, the source of the firearm and the precise sequence of events. The allegations against the detained juveniles remain subject to investigation and due process of law.
