Chandigarh (Naval Kishore): Chandigarh Police officially launched its Diamond Jubilee celebrations by unveiling a commemorative logo on Thursday, marking six decades of dedicated service to the citizens of Chandigarh. The event marks the beginning of a year-long series of programmes celebrating the force’s achievements and reaffirming its commitment to public safety and community engagement.
The commemorative logo was unveiled by Sagar Preet Hooda, Director General of Police (DGP), UT Chandigarh, who described the occasion as a historic milestone in the journey of Chandigarh Police. Addressing officers and dignitaries, Hooda reflected on the force’s transformation over the last 60 years into a modern, technology-driven and citizen-centric organization committed to ensuring safety, security and public trust.
“The Diamond Jubilee celebrations provide an opportunity to look back on our achievements and renew our commitment to professional excellence and stronger community partnerships,” Hooda said.

Speaking about the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies, the DGP noted that while Chandigarh Police had successfully overcome the threat of terrorism in the past, emerging concerns such as drug abuse and cybercrime now demand constant vigilance and preparedness.
“Earlier, terrorism was a major challenge, which Chandigarh Police successfully overcame. Today, drug abuse and cybercrime have emerged as significant threats and require continuous monitoring and preparedness,” he said.
Highlighting the growing role of technology in policing, Hooda said that Artificial Intelligence (AI) presents both opportunities and challenges. He emphasized that Chandigarh Police is continuously training its personnel to tackle evolving cyber threats.

“Training is being imparted not only to cyber police personnel but also to officers posted at police stations. Chandigarh Police is also extending cybercrime training to personnel from neighbouring states to strengthen regional policing capabilities,” he added. Describing Chandigarh as a city of national importance that frequently hosts high-profile dignitaries and VIPs, the DGP assured that the police force remains fully prepared to manage security arrangements round the clock.
On the issue of protests and demonstrations, Hooda said that the police maintain regular dialogue with major organizations and stakeholders ahead of large public gatherings to minimize disruptions and maintain law and order. He further stated that special verification drives are conducted periodically to verify individuals arriving from outside the city and to maintain records of residents and workers. Recent police operations have also resulted in the recovery of a large number of illegal weapons, reflecting sustained efforts to curb unlawful activities.

Warning that cybercrime is likely to increase in the coming years, Hooda said Chandigarh Police is actively strengthening its technological capabilities and manpower to effectively meet future challenges. As part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, Chandigarh Police organized a logo design competition for students from government and private schools across the city. The competition received nearly 450 entries, encouraging young citizens to participate in commemorating the force’s historic milestone.
Among the winners, Bhuvnesh Sharma, a Class X student of Ryan International School, secured the first prize. Meenakshi, a Class XII student from GMSSS Sector 23, won the second prize, while Rakshit Kumar, a Class IX student from GMSSS Karsan, received the third prize. Chandigarh Police expressed gratitude to all participating students, schools, teachers and parents for their enthusiastic support and contributions.
The Diamond Jubilee celebrations will feature a wide range of public outreach initiatives, community engagement programmes, sporting events, cultural activities and awareness campaigns aimed at strengthening the bond between the police and citizens while commemorating 60 years of distinguished service.
