Dehradun (Gurpreet Singh): The Government of India has approved an additional quota of wheat and rice for Uttarakhand to support logistical preparations and food supplies for the upcoming Kumbh Mela 2027 in Haridwar. According to an official communication issued by the Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, the Centre has sanctioned 3,051.079 metric tonnes of wheat alongside 4,978.073 metric tonnes of rice, taking the cumulative supplementary foodgrain allocation for the religious congregation to 8,029.152 metric tonnes.
Under standard central guidelines governing major religious gatherings and mega-events, host states are eligible to receive a supplementary grain allocation equivalent to a maximum of two per cent of their annual distribution under the National Food Security Act. Acting on a formal requisition submitted by the Uttarakhand government to accommodate the anticipated influx of millions of pilgrims, the Centre’s Department of Food and Public Distribution cleared the enhanced supply.
Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the central government for the timely allocation, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that the state administration is mobilizing all necessary resources to ensure a seamless, well-organized, and grand Kumbh Mela. Dhami emphasized that devotee welfare and logistical management remain top priorities, with administrative departments instructed to execute all event-related preparations within strict timeframes.
