CALGARY (Rajeev Sharma): The 13-day search for 11-year-old Parker has come to a heartbreaking conclusion after search teams located the body of a child in an underground drainage pipe network in Calgary. Recovery operations were launched immediately, though significant effort is required to access the area and formally confirm the child’s identity. While formal identification procedures remain underway, authorities strongly believe the deceased is Parker.
Investigators believe Parker entered a deep culvert in a green space along the west side of Deerfoot Trail, traveling through a complex underground tunnel network before coming to rest in a small pipe on the east side of the roadway. The discovery was made after a member of the public provided a tip regarding clothing found in the area that matched what Parker was wearing when he disappeared. Specialized search crews from the Calgary Fire Department were deployed shortly after the tip and located the child’s remains.

The area contains extraordinarily harsh terrain and is part of an active water environment. Authorities noted that environmental factors in water systems heavily influence visibility and dictate when evidence may surface. Although searchers had previously conducted operations in the general area over the past two weeks, no prior evidence indicated that a deeper search within the pipe system was necessary at the time.
Calgary Police Chief Katie McLellan expressed deep sorrow over the tragic outcome. She noted that behind every search map, briefing, tip, and hour spent searching was a boy who was deeply loved by his family, adding that the community grieves alongside them during this devastating loss. Officials extended sincere gratitude to the thousands of volunteers, partner agencies, and media members who supported the search efforts.
At this stage of the investigation, police confirm there is no evidence suggesting criminal activity was involved in Parker’s disappearance. Out of respect for the family’s privacy, authorities typically refrain from publicly sharing specific details regarding missing person cases where criminality is not involved. However, given the extensive public involvement in the search, specific details were shared with the explicit permission of Parker’s family, who have requested privacy as they mourn the loss of their son.
