Pedestrian dead in Scarborough collision

Canada | Toronto police say a pedestrian has been pronounced dead after they were struck by a driver in a vehicle. Officers were called to the area of Sheppard Avenue East and Silver Maple Gate in Scarborough. Police say the driver remained at the scene. Road closures are in effect in the area while police investigate. No other details were provided.

Ottawa | There is a massive surge in Asylum seeker International Students in Canada leaving authorities worried. This year in 2024 from January to September 14000 International students have applied for Asylum compared to 12000 students in 2023 and 1810 claims in 2018. This surge has forced authorities to seriously deliberate upon the matter. Immigration Minister Marc Miller has blamed Immigration consultants for this surge who were suggesting students to apply for Asylum. It is believed that loopholes in Canadian system has resulted in this surge. New regulations are likely in view of this surge in Asylum seekers.

Canada: 100 rounds fired outside Music studio, 23 arrested, fire arms recovered

Toronto | More than 100 rounds were fired outside a prominent Music Studio here by rival gangs. Police which was present in plain clothes arrested 23 persons from the spot and also recovered 16 fire arms left behind by the suspects. Police personnel also sustained minor injuries as their vehicles were targeted repeatedly. Punjabi musicians occassionally visit this studio. Toronto Police Deputy Chief Lauren Pogue said that plainclothes officers in an unmarked vehicle were caught in the crossfire, narrowly escaping injury despite their vehicle being hit multiple times.
