Punjab | In a breather for private realtors, the government has proposed to auction the land reserved for the economically weaker section housing in around 40 mega projects across the state. The government will use the proceeds to construct EWS housing near urban conglomerates like Mohali, Ludhiana and Jalandhar. The Department of Housing and Urban Development would auction nearly 500 acres for around Rs 2,000 crore and use the sale proceeds to raise the EWS housing on chunks of land to be bought for the purpose. Jalandhar | In a major breakthrough, Jalandhar Commissionerate Police successfully arrested two associates of the notorious Landa Group after an intense shootout in Jalandhar. Over 50 shots were fired from both sides during the high-stakes chase, which left two police officials injured. The gangsters also sustained injuries in the exchange of fire. Rajasthan | In a bizarre case, a man presumed dead by doctors in Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu came back to life while he was being taken for cremation. As a result, the state government has suspended three doctors in a case of serious negligence and ordered an inquiry into the case. Karnataka | A female police officer was hacked to death by her husband in Kerala’s Kannur district. The deceased, identified as Divyasree, was a Civil Police Officer at the Chandera Police Station, in Kasargod district. Divyasree and her husband, Rajesh, were separated due to a family feud and she was living at her parents’ place, said sources in the police.
