Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the 1857 Martyrs’ Memorial in Ambala, Haryana, on November 5, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced on Saturday.

The memorial has been developed across approximately 22 acres to honour the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives during the First War of Independence in 1857. It features 23 modern galleries showcasing key events, the struggles of freedom fighters and their contributions to India’s independence through advanced technology.

Saini announced the inauguration date while chairing the first meeting of the Governing Council of the Shaheed Smarak Society at his official residence, Kabir Kutir, in Chandigarh. He also launched the memorial’s official website during the meeting.

What Makes Ambala’s Martyrs’ Memorial Significant?

According to the Haryana government, the memorial is designed to preserve the legacy of the freedom struggle and highlight the role played by Haryana’s people in India’s fight against British rule.

Saini said the complex was more than a historical structure, describing it as a tribute to the courage, sacrifice and patriotism of those who gave their lives for the country’s freedom.

The 23 galleries will present important episodes from the 1857 uprising and the sacrifices of its participants. The memorial is expected to attract students, researchers, history enthusiasts and tourists from India and abroad.

The project also aims to help younger generations understand the freedom movement and learn about the lives of those who fought for independence.
