Ambala Borewell Tragedy Ends in Heartbreak as Four-Year-Old Succumbs Despite Marathon Rescue Mission

Ambala (Balwinder Singh): A desperate rescue operation spanning nearly an entire day ended in tragedy after a four-year-old boy, who had fallen into a borewell in Haryana’s Ambala district, was recovered lifeless during the early hours of Wednesday.

The child, Nirvair Singh, was brought out at around 3:25 a.m. by rescue teams that had been working continuously since Tuesday morning. He was immediately rushed to the Civil Hospital in Ambala, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Medical officials said the exact cause of death would be confirmed after a post-mortem examination. They noted that water was present inside the borewell, making a detailed medical investigation necessary.

The incident occurred in Dhanaura village, where Nirvair had accompanied his father to agricultural fields. According to relatives, the family had gone to serve breakfast to the child’s grandfather when the youngster wandered off while playing. Within moments, he accidentally slipped into an open borewell located in a neighbouring field.

His cries for help prompted family members and nearby farmers to rush to the spot. Initial attempts by villagers to rescue him proved unsuccessful, following which district authorities launched a large-scale rescue operation.

Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the Army, local police and civil administration joined the mission. Heavy machinery was brought in to dig alongside the borewell while rescue personnel worked tirelessly through the day and night in an effort to reach the trapped child safely.

Despite the coordinated efforts of multiple agencies and hours of excavation, rescuers were unable to save the boy.

The incident has left the village in mourning, with residents gathering to support the bereaved family. The tragedy has also renewed concerns over the continued presence of abandoned or unsecured borewells in rural areas, with locals urging authorities to ensure such hazardous structures are properly sealed to prevent similar incidents in the future.
