Calgary (Rajeev Sharma): Alberta is looking to deepen its economic connections across North America as Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration Minister Joseph Schow prepares to travel to Mexico and Texas for meetings with government and business leaders.
Beginning September 27, Schow will promote Alberta as a destination for investment and highlight the province’s skilled workforce, resources, innovation and business environment.
In Mexico, the minister is scheduled to attend the North Capital Forum, a three-day gathering in Mexico City running from September 27 to 29. The forum brings together government officials, business leaders and other stakeholders from Canada, the United States and Mexico to discuss regional cooperation, investment and economic competitiveness. More than 30 Canadian companies and organizations are participating in the forum, according to the Alberta government’s announcement.
Focus on new business opportunities
Schow is expected to hold discussions with industry representatives, investors and decision-makers as Alberta seeks to expand access to international markets and encourage new investment.
The province says the trade mission is intended to showcase Alberta’s economic strengths while creating connections that could lead to opportunities for local businesses, exports and employment.
The North Capital Forum is taking place as North American businesses and governments prepare for important discussions surrounding regional trade and economic integration. Its 2026 program includes sessions on trade, supply chains, investment, energy and competitiveness. (North Capital Forum)
Defence and aerospace meetings in Texas
Following his time in Mexico, Schow will travel to Texas for meetings with representatives from the defence and aerospace sectors.
The Alberta government says the Texas portion of the mission will focus on promoting the province as a potential location for defence-related investment and strengthening commercial relationships between Alberta and Texas.
The province regularly uses international trade missions to help Alberta companies enter new markets, attract investment and broaden their network of international business partners.
Details of the minister’s travel and mission expenses will be released through Alberta’s public travel and expense disclosure system.
