Alberta invests $4 million in projects to stop family violence before it begins

Alberta (Rajeev Sharma): Minister of Arts, Culture and Status of Women Tanya Fir has called for continued support for girls’ education, ambitions and career development, marking the International Day of the Girl with a message focused on empowerment and equal opportunities.

In her statement, Fir celebrated the achievements of girls in Alberta and across the world, emphasising the importance of recognising their contributions and helping them pursue their aspirations with confidence.

She said the occasion serves as an opportunity to acknowledge both what girls have accomplished and the potential they hold for the future.

Scholarships Aim to Expand Opportunities

Highlighting the Alberta government’s efforts to support young women, Fir pointed to initiatives designed to improve access to education, training and career resources.

These include the Women in STEM, Persons Case and Women in Technical and Applied Arts scholarships, which support women pursuing opportunities in areas where they have historically been underrepresented.

According to the minister, such programmes are intended to help girls and young women develop their abilities, explore different career paths and build meaningful futures.

She stressed that every girl should have the opportunity to identify her strengths and pursue a career without being limited by barriers to education or professional advancement.

Minister Calls for Greater Community Support

Fir also praised the confidence, resilience and leadership demonstrated by women and girls across Alberta, describing their achievements as an inspiration to others.

She urged residents to play an active role in encouraging and supporting girls in their families and communities, saying that empowerment should extend beyond a single day of recognition.

The minister’s message placed particular emphasis on creating an environment in which girls can pursue their goals, contribute to society and participate in shaping the province’s future.

As International Day of the Girl is observed, the statement reinforces the importance of investing in education, expanding career opportunities and ensuring that girls have the resources and encouragement needed to fulfil their potential.
