Noida (Rajeev Sharma): A day after large-scale protests by factory workers shook parts of Noida, the Uttar Pradesh government has rolled out a fresh minimum wage structure aimed at addressing long-standing concerns over low pay.

The revised rates, approved late Monday night, will be implemented retrospectively from April 1, officials said. The move follows unrest in Gautam Buddha Nagar, where demonstrations over wages and working conditions turned disruptive in several industrial zones.

Pay Increase Across Key Industrial Districts

According to the new notification, unskilled workers in Gautam Buddha Nagar and Ghaziabad will now receive ₹13,690 per month, marking a significant increase from earlier levels. Semi-skilled labourers will earn ₹15,059, while skilled workers’ wages have been set at ₹16,868.

In other urban local bodies, the revised monthly wages stand at ₹13,006 for unskilled, ₹14,306 for semi-skilled, and ₹16,025 for skilled workers. Meanwhile, workers in remaining districts will receive ₹12,356, ₹13,591, and ₹15,224 respectively across the three categories.

Decision Follows Worker Unrest

The wage revision comes on the heels of protests that saw thousands of labourers demanding parity with neighbouring states and better enforcement of existing labour laws. Tensions escalated in some areas, prompting administrative intervention and the formation of a special committee to examine the demands.

District Magistrate Medha Rupam stated that the updated wage framework was finalised after consultations with both employers and worker representatives to ensure a practical and balanced outcome.

Focus on Industrial Harmony

Officials indicated that the government’s priority is to prevent further unrest while ensuring fair compensation for workers. Authorities have also assured stricter monitoring of wage compliance across industries.

With the new pay structure in place, the administration hopes to stabilise the situation in Noida and surrounding industrial hubs, while reinforcing confidence among the workforce and businesses alike.
