AMRITSAR (GURPREET SINGH): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders Talbir Singh Gill and MLA Jeevan Jyot Kaur launched a sharp attack on Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) leader Bikram Singh Majithia and his political ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), asserting that the Bhagwant Mann government had demonstrated the courage to take decisive legal action against powerful political figures involved in the drug trade. Addressing the issue following the filing of a more than 40,000-page chargesheet against Bikram Singh Majithia, the leaders said the investigation had brought ₹736 crore in drug money and financial transactions under scrutiny. They asserted that the people of Punjab would reject the politics of drugs, intimidation and collusion.
Under the leadership of AAP Majitha constituency in-charge Talbir Singh Gill, AAP karyakartas held a massive protest against Majithia in the constituency. Raising slogans such as “Chitte Da Vyaapaari Murdabad” and “Gangsters De Janamdata Nu Jail Bhejo”, the protesters burnt an effigy of the Akali leader and demanded accountability for the damage caused to Punjab’s youth.
Addressing the media, AAP Majitha Halqa In-charge Talbir Singh Gill said, “CM Bhagwant Singh Mann’s government has shown the courage to tighten the noose around drug traffickers. The law is doing its work with complete honesty, and the Punjab Police has filed a chargesheet running into more than 40,000 pages against Bikram Singh Majithia. The scale of the case and the financial transactions under investigation explain the extensive documentation placed before the court. Majithia must face the legal consequences of his actions, and the court will decide the matter on the basis of evidence.”
Taking on the previous Congress government, Talbir Singh Gill said, “During Captain Amarinder Singh’s tenure, no meaningful action was taken against Majithia despite the report submitted by honest officer Harpreet Singh Sidhu. The relationship between the political leadership of that time prevented decisive action. In contrast, the CM Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government has taken the matter to court without succumbing to political pressure.”
Reacting to Bikram Singh Majithia’s statements, he said, “Bikram Singh Majithia is trying to divert public attention through claims and counterclaims, but the chargesheet, the official statements and the legal proceedings are there for everyone to examine. Making tall claims cannot erase the questions surrounding the financial transactions under investigation.”
Taking a dig at Bikram Singh Majithia’s claim of being the ‘General of Majha’, Talbir Singh Gill said, “The real General of Majha is Dhan Dhan Baba Deep Singh Ji. No one becomes a hero by giving himself a grand title. The people of Majha know the difference between those who uphold Punjab’s honour and those whose names have come under scrutiny in the drug case.”
He further said, “For years, the people of Majitha lived in an atmosphere of fear, intimidation and hooliganism. That fear has now disappeared, and people are ready to speak up. In the coming elections, the people of Majitha will unite against the politics of drugs and intimidation and deliver a decisive verdict.”
Meanwhile, AAP MLA Jeevan Jyot Kaur launched a sharp attack on the political understanding between Bikram Singh Majithia and the BJP, calling it dangerous for Punjab’s future. She said, “The filing of a more than 40,000-page chargesheet against Bikram Singh Majithia demonstrates that the Bhagwant Mann government is determined to pursue the case through the legal process, regardless of the political influence of those involved. The investigation has brought ₹736 crore in suspected drug money and financial transactions routed through various companies under scrutiny. The people of Punjab deserve answers about these transactions and the source and movement of the money.”
Jeevan Jyot Kaur pointed out that after the Bhagwant Mann government had significantly curbed the inflow of drugs from across the Pakistan border, the supply of drugs from Gujarat had become a serious concern. She noted that Amit Shah and Bikram Singh Majithia were working together with an eye on forming a government in Punjab and claimed that their political understanding threatened to push the state back towards the destruction caused by drugs.
She said, “The BJP and Bikram Singh Majithia must answer for their political understanding and the direction in which they want to take Punjab. After the damage drugs have inflicted on our youth and families, the state cannot afford any politics that puts vested interests above the future of its people. Punjab must remain vigilant against every attempt to revive the drug menace.”
Appealing to the people of Punjab to remain alert, Jeevan Jyot Kaur said, “The people must recognise the dangers posed by this alliance and reject any politics that threatens Punjab’s youth, peace and future. The CM Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government is committed to fighting drugs and ensuring that the law takes its course. Punjab will not allow its future to be compromised.”
