Surrey (Rajeev Sharma): Canadian police have arrested two men in connection with the shooting at comedian Kapil Sharma’s cafe in Surrey, British Columbia, and filed firearm-related charges against them in cases involving two separate incidents.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) identified the accused as Pardeep Singh and Saveer Khan, both 22. They were taken into custody on November 1, with the arrests announced in a statement issued on Friday.
One of the cases relates to an October 16, 2025, shooting at Sharma’s restaurant in the 8400-block of 120 Street. Police received reports of gunfire at the premises, which was closed at the time. Two employees were inside the cafe but escaped without injuries.
The other case concerns a shooting reported at a Surrey residence on October 12, 2025, in which a woman sustained injuries. Investigators later identified possible connections between the two incidents, prompting the BC Extortion Task Force to take charge of both probes.
According to the RCMP, each accused faces two counts of reckless discharge of a firearm — one relating to the residential shooting and the other to the attack on the cafe.
Police said the charges followed an extensive investigation involving judicial authorisations, search warrants and detailed examination of evidence collected over the past year.
Chief Superintendent Duncan Pound, Lower Mainland District Operations Officer and Assistant District Commander, said the arrests reflected coordinated efforts by law enforcement agencies to tackle violence linked to extortion. He added that authorities remained committed to protecting public safety.
The October 2025 attack was the third shooting reported at Sharma’s Surrey cafe since it opened in July that year.
