Indore (Rajeev Sharma): Singer Diljit Dosanjh’s November 15 concert in Indore has drawn attention after the district child protection authorities directed the organisers to keep four songs off the performance list. The instruction was issued following a complaint by a professor based in Chandigarh, who raised concerns about the suitability of the tracks for an audience that may include young children.
The District Child Protection Officer in Indore sent an official communication to the management of C-21 Mall on November 6, asking them to ensure that the songs are not played during the event. The authority cited the potential influence of their lyrics on children as the reason behind the restriction.
The four songs identified in the notice are ‘Patiala Peg’, ‘5 Tara Theke’, ‘Jeb Vichon Labhiya’ and ‘Jatt Uthe Fire Karda Jitthe Pabandi Hathiyaran Di’.
Notice refers to 2019 High Court directions
The directive has been issued under the Department of Women and Child Development and refers to an order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court dated July 22, 2019. The district official has asked the venue management to follow the instructions in view of the possibility that children will be present at the concert.
The notice clarifies that entry will be permitted for children above five years of age. It is this provision, along with concerns over the lyrics, that has prompted the authorities to seek the removal of the four tracks from the programme.
The communication has also been shared with the Indore Collector, the concerned revenue officer, the Joint Director of the Women and Child Development Department and the Vijay Nagar police station SHO.
Concert scheduled for November 15
The Indore show is part of Diljit Dosanjh’s ongoing India concert tour. The latest development comes amid scrutiny surrounding the content of songs performed at his live shows, following an earlier complaint connected to a previous concert.
Organisers are now expected to take the restrictions into account while finalising the event’s arrangements. The concert will be held at C-21 Mall on November 15, with the four named songs excluded in accordance with the district authority’s notice.
