‘Guess How Many Seats Congress Won’: PM Modi Takes Dig at Opposition Over MLC Polls in Four States

New Delhi (Rajeev Sharma): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has targeted the Congress over its performance in legislative council elections across Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar and Karnataka, drawing attention to the use of ballot papers in the polls.

In a post on X, Modi pointed out that elections had been conducted for 28 seats across the four states using ballot papers. He then challenged his followers to guess how many seats the Congress had secured, adding a thinking-face emoji to underline his remark.

The post appeared to take a political swipe at the opposition party, bringing the debate over voting methods and electoral performance into focus once again.

Modi Highlights Ballot Paper Voting

By specifically mentioning ballot papers, the Prime Minister linked the election results to the broader political discussion surrounding voting systems in India.

The Congress and several other opposition parties have previously raised questions about electronic voting machines and called for greater scrutiny of electoral processes. Modi’s post drew attention to the results of contests held using paper ballots, although he did not provide a detailed breakdown of the outcomes.

Four States, 28 Seats in Focus

The elections mentioned by Modi covered legislative council seats in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar and Karnataka. These contests form part of the electoral process for the respective states’ legislative councils.

The Prime Minister’s post did not specify the number of seats won by the Congress in each state or provide the party’s combined tally across the 28 seats.

Political Debate Over Election Methods Continues

Modi’s remarks add to the continuing exchange between the BJP and Congress over electoral systems and the interpretation of election results.

While the Prime Minister used the ballot-paper polls to question the Congress’s performance, the wider debate over voting methods remains a contentious issue in Indian politics.

The post has placed the results of the four-state legislative council elections back in the spotlight, with attention focused on the Congress’s performance and the political message Modi sought to convey.
