Amritsar Rural Police Bust Arms and Heroin Supply Networks; Seven Arrested, 14 Pistols and 20 Kg Heroin Seized

Amritsar (Gurpreet Singh): In a significant crackdown on organised crime, Amritsar Rural Police have arrested seven accused and seized 14 sophisticated pistols along with 20 kilograms of heroin while targeting alleged illegal arms and narcotics supply networks.

According to the police, the operation has exposed suspected links between weapons trafficking and drug smuggling. Investigators are now working to establish the extent of the network and identify other individuals who may have been involved in the alleged activities.

Suspected Foreign-Based Handler Under Investigation

Preliminary investigations have indicated that the accused were allegedly in contact with a handler based abroad. The handler is suspected of facilitating the movement of illegal arms consignments for further distribution among criminal elements through an organised network.

Police are examining the suspected connections to determine how the consignments were sourced, transported and supplied. Investigators are also seeking to identify individuals who may have coordinated the operations within Punjab and beyond.

The alleged involvement of a foreign-based handler has added another dimension to the investigation, with authorities focusing on tracing the network’s wider connections.

Cases Registered at Two Police Stations

The police have registered FIRs at Gharinda and Kathunangal police stations in connection with the seizures and arrests.

Further investigation is underway to establish both the backward and forward linkages of the suspected network. This includes tracing the origins of the seized weapons and heroin, identifying intended recipients and examining possible connections with other criminal groups.

The investigation is expected to focus on determining whether the accused were operating independently or as part of a larger organised supply chain.

Crackdown on Organised Crime Continues

The recovery of sophisticated firearms and a substantial quantity of heroin represents a significant development in the police effort to curb illegal weapons and drug trafficking in the region.

Punjab Police have reiterated their commitment to dismantling networks involved in narcotics smuggling, illegal arms distribution and organised criminal activities. Such operations aim to disrupt the supply chains that can contribute to drug abuse, violent crime and threats to public safety.

With further investigation continuing, authorities are working to establish the full extent of the alleged operation and identify any additional suspects connected to the network.

The seven accused have been apprehended, while the investigation remains ongoing. The allegations against them will be subject to the legal process.
