Maharishi Valmiki Embodies Indian Culture, Human Consciousness: Haryana Governor Ashim Kumar Ghosh

Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): Haryana Governor Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh underscored the enduring cultural and literary legacy of Maharishi Valmiki on Monday, describing him as a monumental symbol of Indian heritage, moral ethics, and human consciousness. Speaking at an event organized by the Maharishi Valmiki Ashram and Valmiki Sabha in Thanesar, Kurukshetra, to commemorate Maharishi Valmiki Prakat Diwas, the Governor highlighted the timeless lessons enshrined in the Ramayana. He noted that the epic transcends literature to serve as a practical moral compass emphasizing duty, selflessness, truth, and restraint, while mirroring constitutional ideals of equality, human dignity, and fraternity.

During the commemorative event, Governor Ghosh, alongside Haryana Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Krishan Kumar Bedi, inaugurated the construction of new residential accommodations at the Bhagwan Valmiki Hostel and pledged an assistance grant of ₹15 lakh to build two rooms for student residents. Addressing the congregation, Ghosh reflected on the foundational episode of the Krauncha bird from the sage’s life, illustrating that high literature stems from deep compassion and sensitivity to injustice. He urged citizens to adopt the timeless virtues displayed by Lord Ram, Bharat, Lakshman, Sita, and Hanuman into their daily personal and civic responsibilities.

Cabinet Minister Krishan Kumar Bedi reinforced the message of universal fraternity, maintaining that comprehensive societal progress requires collaborative cooperation across all communities. Bedi traced the historic lineage of Kurukshetra’s connection with the sage, pointing out that the local hostel has nurtured notable legislators, civil administrators, and public figures since its establishment in 1958. Turning to the broader socio-political sphere, the minister stressed the government’s commitment to eradicating social vices such as drug dependency, while confirming that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will lead a major roadshow in Karnal on November 5 to directly counter political misinformation spread by opposition parties and present the ruling administration’s welfare milestones to the electorate.
