Surrey (Richa Walia): Doug McCallum has secured a decisive victory in Surrey’s mayoral race, setting the stage for a powerful return to City Hall as his Safe Surrey Coalition appears poised to dominate the council as well. With 134 of 164 polls reporting, the preliminary results showed six of the top eight council positions occupied by Safe Surrey candidates, signalling a strong showing for the team aligned with the returning mayor.
Doug Elford was placed second, followed by Meera Gill, Mandeep Nagra, Suhana Gill and Allison Patton. The results pointed to a commanding position for the Safe Surrey Coalition, although the remaining council seats were still to be determined as vote counting continued. If the trend held, McCallum would return to office with substantial political support around the council table, potentially strengthening his ability to advance the coalition’s agenda.

The mayoral victory marks a significant moment in Surrey politics, while the council results will determine the scale of the coalition’s influence over the city’s next term. With votes still being counted, the final composition of council remained subject to confirmation. Doug McCallum is the hero of the hour at the Safe Surrey Coalition’s election night victory party.
The former mayor has returned in triumph, taking down incumbent Brenda Locke in a battle that ended up being less close than some had predicted – with McCallum claiming 33.39% of the vote to Locke’s 22.23%, with 111 of 164 tabulators reporting.
“I love Surrey, but I love the people of Surrey more,” he said, arriving on the banquet hall stage with his triumphant council candidates. “Together we’re going to build a great city.”
