Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): Akali Dal “Waris Punjab De” senior leader and Dakha MLA Sardar Manpreet Singh Ayali today expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all Punjabis for making the Punjab Bandh call an overwhelming success.
Sardar Ayali stated that justice-loving people across Punjab have once again demonstrated that whenever there is a need to stand united for justice, Punjabis lead from the front.
Sardar Ayali pointed that for the past two days, the police had been preventing people demanding justice from travelling to Mansa, and several arrests had already been made. Ayali remarked that if the police had shown the same determination in taking action against the drug cartel as they had in arresting people seeking justice, the situation in Punjab would have been far better.
He further said that the state government’s much-publicised war against drugs had turned out to be nothing more than a political exercise, with little to show in terms of results. Even today, he said, drug cartels continue to operate fearlessly in Punjab, while young lives are being lost to the drug trade.
Ayali alleged that those who raised their voices against the drug cartel had either been killed or imprisoned. He cited the deaths of Parvinder Singh Jhota and drug inspector Neha Shori of Kharar as examples. He also referred to Bhai Amritpal Singh Khalsa, who was jailed in Dibrugarh after raising his voice against drug abuse.
Launching a sharp attack on the Punjab government, Sardar Manpreet Singh Ayali said that the state had effectively been turned into a police state. He alleged that the Punjab Police was functioning as an extension of the ruling party and that the Aam Aadmi Party government was using the police force to suppress the voices of the people.
Sardar Ayali made it clear that Punjab would never forget the sacrifice of late Parvinder Singh Jhota in the fight against drugs. He said that Jhota had put the future of his own family at stake in an effort to protect other people’s children from the scourge of drugs. He added that the people of Punjab stood firmly united with the family of late Parvinder Singh Jhota and that the fight for justice for him would be taken to its logical conclusion.
Sardar Manpreet Singh Ayali reaffirmed that Akali Dal “Waris Punjab De” stands firmly with the family of late Parvinder Singh Jhota and will continue to support their fight for justice.
