Major Political Shift in Punjab: Former CM’s OSD Manjit Singh Sidhu Joins Congress

Chandigarh (Rajeev Sharma): In a significant political development ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, Manjit Singh Sidhu, former Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has joined the Congress in the presence of Punjab Congress Committee chief Pargat Singh.

Sidhu’s move marks a shift in his political affiliation at a time when parties are preparing to strengthen their positions ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. His previous association with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), dating back to its formative years, adds significance to the development.

Reflecting on his journey with AAP, Sidhu said he had been associated with the party from its early days and had stood by it during its formative and challenging period. Emphasising the depth of his commitment, he said, “We loved the Aam Aadmi Party more than our own lives and embraced it with our blood. We were with the party from day one, when it was in its developmental and formative stages. My association with the party dates back to its days of struggle, not just today.”

Sidhu said his decision to join the Congress was driven by his priority for Punjab’s interests. His entry into the party comes as Congress seeks to consolidate its political base and prepare for the 2027 electoral contest.

The political implications of Sidhu’s move will become clearer in the months ahead as Punjab’s major parties intensify their preparations for the Assembly elections. No details have yet been announced regarding the role or responsibilities he may assume within the Congress organisation
