Pooch (Gurpreet Singh): Four suspected Pakistani infiltrators attempting to breach the Line of Control (LoC) were killed in a powerful landmine explosion on Monday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district. The blast occurred near Nangi Tekri in the Krishna Ghati sector, an area characterized by steep ridges and dense foliage that has historically served as a critical infiltration corridor for cross-border militants.
According to Military Intelligence sources, Indian Army surveillance units spotted four bodies lying near the zero line following the blast. Pakistani troops subsequently recovered two of the bodies from across the perimeter, while the remaining two were visible at the site through late evening. The Indian Army has placed border units on heightened alert to thwart potential follow-up infiltration attempts. While defense sources maintained that the deceased were armed terrorists attempting an illegal border crossing, accounts across Pakistani social media claimed the individuals were local civilians repairing irrigation pipes near the frontier.
The Krishna Ghati sector remains a highly sensitive military zone. In 2017, a Pakistani Army Border Action Team (BAT) crossed the LoC in this sector, targeting an Indian patrol and killing two soldiers. Over the preceding week, Indian Army engineers detected and defused approximately a dozen anti-personnel landmines along the forward defense lines in Poonch, where seasonal rains and soil erosion frequently shift submerged ordnance from designated minefields.
In a separate incident on Monday, Indian Army troops engaged in track construction discovered two aged, rusted landmines near the border fencing at Basooni Top in the Mendhar sector. The area was cordoned off immediately, and military bomb disposal experts carried out a controlled detonation to neutralize the munitions safely.
