Massive Hailstorm, Torrential Rain Lash Haridwar; Vehicles, Homes and Crops Damaged

Haridwar (Rajeev Sharma): A massive hailstorm accompanied by torrential rainfall struck several parts of Haridwar, Uttarakhand, on the morning of October 9, 2026, causing damage to vehicles, residential properties and agricultural crops.

The weather changed abruptly around 10 a.m., bringing intense rainfall and unusually large hailstones that covered roads and streets. The hailstorm reportedly shattered windshields and windows of cars, damaged two-wheelers and affected homes and standing crops, raising concerns among residents and farmers.

Shivalik Nagar, Jwalapur and the SIDCUL area were among the locations reported to have been severely affected by the extreme weather. The size and intensity of the hailstones added to the damage, disrupting normal activity and leaving residents to assess losses after the storm.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Haridwar District Magistrate Mayur Dixit reportedly directed officials to conduct immediate damage assessments and survey affected areas. The proposed assessments are intended to establish the extent of losses and facilitate relief and compensation for eligible farmers and other affected residents.

Weather conditions subsequently eased, with nighttime temperatures reported to be around 21°C. The full extent of the damage and the details of any compensation are subject to official assessment.
