Haryana Approves Rs 5.75-Crore Parallel Road Along Kurukshetra’s Elevated Railway Track to Ease Traffic

Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): The Haryana government has granted administrative approval for the construction of a new road running parallel to the elevated railway track in Kurukshetra to relieve urban congestion and enhance regional connectivity. Announcing the decision in Chandigarh, Haryana Minister for Public Works (Buildings and Roads) and Public Health Engineering, Ranbir Gangwa, stated that the infrastructure project is designed to provide an alternate thoroughfare for daily commuters and visitors.

The planned roadway will span approximately 3.20 kilometres with a carriageway width of 7 metres, connecting Level Crossing 61-C (near Kurukshetra University Gate No. 3) to Level Crossing 65-C (near the Old Bus Stand). Estimated at an outlay of around Rs 5.75 crore, the road is proposed within the operational right-of-way of the Indian Railways and will proceed following mandatory statutory clearances and a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from railway authorities.

Gangwa highlighted that Kurukshetra witnesses substantial vehicular surges during major religious and cultural congregations, notably the International Gita Mahotsav and solar eclipse fairs. These periodic influxes place severe strain on the city’s arterial road network.

Once completed, the bypass corridor will offer an alternative transit route to decongest internal intersections, facilitate unhindered passage for emergency response vehicles, and reduce bottlenecks along the busy Saharanpur–Kurukshetra–Pehowa corridor. Gangwa noted that the initiative will bolster the holy city’s overall transportation framework and deliver long-term mobility benefits to residents and pilgrims alike.
