Alberta Justice Minister Heads to Denmark for Global Legal Conference

Edmonton (Rajeev Sharma): Alberta Justice Minister Mickey Amery is travelling to Copenhagen, Denmark, from October 4 to 8 to take part in the International Bar Association Annual Conference and meet with representatives of the Danish justice sector.

The international conference is expected to bring together more than 5,000 legal professionals representing governments, regulatory agencies, law firms, businesses and academic institutions from more than 130 jurisdictions.

Discussions at the event will cover issues affecting justice systems around the world, including access to justice, artificial intelligence, legal technology, criminal law, public-sector legal work and the rule of law.

Amery said international engagement gives Alberta an opportunity to exchange ideas with legal professionals from other jurisdictions while sharing the province’s own experience in justice-sector modernization.

During the visit, the minister is also scheduled to meet Danish government and justice officials to discuss areas of mutual interest and examine different approaches to legal policies and programs.

The Alberta government said international and national partnerships can help identify new opportunities and strengthen cooperation on issues affecting residents, businesses and justice institutions.

Amery’s itinerary includes conference sessions and meetings with lawyers, law firms and justice-sector representatives between October 5 and 8.

The minister’s official business is scheduled to conclude on October 9. Details of expenses associated with the trip will be made available through Alberta’s travel and expense disclosure process.
