Chandigarh (Naval Kishore): The Food Safety Administration of the Chandigarh Health Department has suspended the food business licence of M/s Matru Tikki Wala, located at Booth No. SB1 in Sadar Bazar, Sector 19-C, following an inspection that found serious hygiene-related violations.
The suspension of Food Business Licence No. 13023001000029 took effect immediately after the inspection conducted by a Food Safety Officer on September 30.
According to the department, officials found deficiencies related to the hygienic preparation, storage and handling of food. Authorities described the violations as serious enough to warrant stopping the establishment’s operations until the shortcomings are addressed.
Food business ordered to stop operations
Under the suspension order, the food business operator has been directed to cease all food-related activities from the time the order is served.
The establishment has also been prohibited from preparing, storing, distributing or selling food during the suspension period.
The operator has been instructed to correct the deficiencies identified in the inspection report and comply with requirements under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, along with the applicable rules and regulations.
After completing the corrective measures, the business must submit a compliance report accompanied by supporting documents and photographs.
The department has warned that continuing food operations during the suspension or violating the order could result in further legal action without additional notice.
Food safety advisory for consumers
The Chandigarh Food Safety Administration has urged residents to exercise caution when purchasing food from local establishments and to pay attention to hygiene standards and the quality of ingredients being used.
Consumers who notice suspected food safety violations can contact the Department of Food Safety and Standards at Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, Chandigarh, on 0172-2752128.
Complaints can also be submitted through the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India’s consumer grievance portal.
Food operators reminded of safety requirements
The department has also reiterated several basic food safety practices for businesses.
Food operators have been advised to prevent cross-contamination by keeping raw and cooked food separate, use clean water, and store food in hygienic, covered containers. Perishable items requiring refrigeration should be kept at 5°C or below.
Businesses have also been reminded not to sell expired or spoiled products and to source raw materials from FSSAI-licensed suppliers.
Packaged food must carry labels that comply with FSSAI requirements, while food businesses using colours in products such as sweets must ensure that only permitted food colours are used within the prescribed limits.
The suspension forms part of the Chandigarh administration’s ongoing enforcement efforts to ensure that food businesses comply with hygiene and food safety requirements and that consumers are protected from potential food-borne health risks.
