Delhi (Rajeev Sharma): Two alleged members of the Vikas Kalia gang were arrested following an exchange of fire with Delhi Police’s Special Staff in the Paharganj area, police said.
According to the police, the Special Staff received information about the suspects late at night and subsequently launched an operation to intercept them. A trap was laid in the area before the team moved in to apprehend the two men.
Police said the suspects opened fire during the operation, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Both accused suffered gunshot injuries and were taken into custody following the encounter.
The two men have been identified by police as alleged “bad characters” of the Vikas Kalia gang. Investigators said they were wanted in connection with a firing incident that took place during the Sadar Bazar–Nabi Karim Shobha Yatra in mid-September.
The circumstances surrounding that earlier firing incident are now part of the investigation, with police examining the suspects’ alleged roles and possible links to the gang.
Further details about the identities of the arrested men, the weapons recovered and the circumstances of the encounter are expected to be released as the investigation progresses.
Police said the operation was carried out by the Special Staff unit of Central Delhi. More information is awaited from the authorities.
