Edmonton (Rajeev Sharma): Construction is officially underway on a new francophone school campus in west Edmonton that will bring together two separate high schools under one facility.
The $91-million project will serve up to 1,260 students and house both a public and a Catholic school. The public school will be known as École l’Odyssée, while the Catholic school will be called École l’Envolée.
Although the schools will share the same campus, each will maintain its own identity, programming and dedicated spaces. Both institutions will serve students from Grade 7 through Grade 12.
The shared facility is also expected to provide students with access to a wider range of amenities, including a library, a larger gymnasium and career and technology studies classrooms.
Those spaces will offer practical learning opportunities in areas such as culinary arts, welding, construction and introductory medical sciences, giving students opportunities to explore potential career paths while still in school.
Infrastructure Minister Martin Long said the project will provide modern learning environments for Edmonton families while supporting construction-related employment and economic activity.
Education and Child Care Minister Demetrios Nicolaides said the project forms part of Alberta’s broader investment in school infrastructure. The province has committed $8.6 billion toward more than 100 schools and over 200,000 student spaces across Alberta.
The new campus is being developed in partnership with Conseil scolaire Centre-Nord, the City of Edmonton and other project partners. The school board said the development represents an important milestone for Edmonton’s francophone community, particularly families living in the city’s west end.
Under Budget 2026, Alberta is also allocating $3.3 billion over three years for K-12 infrastructure, covering new schools, modernizations, modular classrooms and capital maintenance and renewal.
