New Delhi (Rajeev Sharma): A Punjabi truck driver was allegedly stabbed around 20 times at a US rest area on Monday morning, with members of the Punjabi community describing the incident as a possible racially motivated attack.
The victim has been identified as Gurvinder Singh, who is employed by WJ Transport. According to Pavitar Singh, a member of the Punjabi community who shared details of the incident, Gurvinder was resting at the truck stop when the alleged attacker directed a racial slur at him before attacking him with a knife.
Gurvinder was later found seriously injured and lying in a pool of blood approximately 100 metres from his parked truck, according to the information shared by the community.
He was taken to hospital and is reportedly in critical condition. Pavitar Singh said Gurvinder is currently unable to speak. His specific hometown in Punjab has not yet been established.
Police have been informed about the incident and are looking into the circumstances surrounding the attack. Details regarding the identity of the alleged attacker, the exact location of the assault and whether authorities have formally classified it as a hate crime were not immediately available from the information provided.
