CALGARY (Rajeev Sharma): Voters in Alberta’s Calgary-Shaw electoral division can now cast their ballots ahead of election day, with advance voting officially getting underway on Tuesday.
Alberta Chief Electoral Officer Gordon McClure confirmed that the advance voting station is open from September 8 through September 12, giving eligible voters five days to vote before the by-election.
Advance Voting Hours and Location
The advance voting facility is located at:
1000 SUNDANCE
15 Sunpark Plaza SE, Calgary
The station will remain open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day throughout the advance voting period.
Unlike Election Day, eligible voters from anywhere within the Calgary-Shaw electoral division can use the advance voting location.
Those voting on Election Day, however, must attend the voting place assigned to them.
Election Day Set for September 14
The Calgary-Shaw by-election will take place on Monday, September 14, 2026. Voting places across the electoral division will be open from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Elections Alberta is expected to publish unofficial results after voting ends on election night. The official results are scheduled to be released on September 24.
Voters can check their assigned voting location through Elections Alberta’s online Where to Vote service or contact the election authority for assistance.
Who Can Vote?
To participate in the by-election, a person must be:
- A Canadian citizen
- At least 18 years old on Election Day
- An ordinary resident of the Calgary-Shaw electoral division
Residents who are uncertain whether their address falls within the electoral division can verify their eligibility through Elections Alberta’s voter information tools.
Voter Registration Still Available
People who are eligible but have not registered at their current address can register when they arrive at the advance voting location.
Registration will also be available at assigned voting places on Election Day.
Those who are already registered at their current address do not need to register again.
Identification Required to Cast a Ballot
Voters must establish both their identity and current physical address before receiving a ballot.
Elections Alberta accepts numerous forms of identification. These include government-issued photo identification showing the voter’s name, photograph and current address.
Another option is to present two identification documents containing the voter’s full name, with at least one showing the current physical address. Documents such as utility bills can be used under the applicable requirements.
Voters who do not have the required documents may also be able to vote through an authorized signatory’s attestation.
Elections Alberta has published a complete list of acceptable identification documents for voters preparing to cast their ballots.
