Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): Education is a transformative force that instills self-confidence, builds character, and cultivates a deep sense of national duty, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said on Tuesday. Speaking at the 22nd death anniversary memorial ceremony of Swami Devendra Swarup Brahmachari at DBS International Public School in Ladwa, Saini stated that Indian youth are realizing the spiritual leader’s vision by staying rooted in cultural values while leading global advancements in science and modern technology. During the event, the Chief Minister inaugurated a new auditorium hall, paid floral tributes to the late spiritual figure, and honoured Mahamandaleshwar Swami Hari Chetananand Maharaj and Professor Ramesh Kumar Pandey for their societal contributions.
Highlighting the enduring legacy of Swami Devendra Swarup Brahmachari, the Chief Minister noted that true wisdom liberates individuals from fear, ignorance, and narrow thinking. He emphasized that the spiritual visionary championed the traditional Gurukul educational model while integrating modern academic disciplines, establishing schools as centres for character building and nation-building rather than mere degree-granting centres. Saini pointed out that the spiritual leader translated Vedic knowledge and the Bhagavad Gita’s philosophy of selfless action into public welfare through institutions that include Sanskrit colleges, Veda schools, and higher educational academies.
Underlining the leader’s focus on female education, Saini recalled the establishment of Seth Navrang Rai Lohia Jairam Girls College across 22 acres in Lohar Majra, alongside Shri Jairam Vidyapeeth founded in Kurukshetra in 1977. He noted that Swami Devendra Swarup prioritized educating young women long before broader societal awareness caught up, recognizing that educating a girl empowers multiple generations. The Chief Minister also lauded the seer’s dedicated humanitarian service, including rehabilitating displaced refugees in Kurukshetra during the 1947 partition, aiding flood victims in Haryana, and organizing disaster relief following the Uttarkashi earthquake.
Welcoming the dignitaries, the head of Shri Jairam Vidyapeeth, Brahma Swarup Brahmachari Maharaj, reiterated that moral values, quality schooling, and reverence for parents and teachers remain essential for youth to succeed in life and contribute meaningfully to society. Several notable dignitaries attended the memorial, including former Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Sharma, former minister J.P. Dalal, former minister of state Subhash Sudha, and civic board chairpersons.
