FAZILKA (Gurpreet Singh): The Fazilka Falcons have received a significant boost in their Sher-E-Punjab T20 League campaign with the arrival of India captain Shubman Gill, who is set to make his first appearance in the tournament this season.
Gill was seen training alongside the Falcons in a video posted by the franchise on Instagram, confirming his arrival after sitting out the team’s first three matches.
The right-handed batter’s inclusion comes at a crucial stage for Fazilka. The team has managed only one victory from three games, with two defeats leaving them fifth among the six teams in the competition. Sanvir Singh has led the side during Gill’s absence.
Gill is one of several prominent Indian players taking part in this year’s Punjab-based T20 competition. India opener Abhishek Sharma and fast bowler Arshdeep Singh are also featuring in the league.
The 26-year-old enters the tournament after an impressive IPL 2026 season with Gujarat Titans. Gill accumulated 732 runs in 16 matches, averaging 45.75 and striking at 196.22. His campaign included a century, with his best score being 104.
His contribution helped Gujarat Titans reach the IPL final, where they eventually finished second after being beaten by Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Gill’s arrival also gives him an opportunity to get back into T20 cricket. Although he currently leads India in Tests and ODIs, he is not part of the country’s present T20I setup.
For Fazilka Falcons, however, the focus will be firmly on the immediate challenge. With the team struggling to climb the standings, the presence of a batter of Gill’s experience and recent T20 form could provide the spark needed to revive their season.
The Falcons will now hope their new addition can quickly settle into the side and make an impact as they enter the next phase of the Sher-E-Punjab T20 League.
