Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh) — The Haryana Legislative Assembly on Tuesday unanimously adopted a government resolution moved by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini to commemorate the upcoming 650th Prakash Parv of Saint Shiromani Guru Ravidas through the nationwide ‘Guru Ravidas Maharaj Samrasta Sankalp Abhiyan’. The multi-month campaign, which commenced on Guru Purnima on July 29, 2026, and will conclude on February 20, 2027, is designed to disseminate Guru Ravidas’s enduring philosophy of social equality, compassion, human service, and communal harmony across every section of society.
Tabling the official resolution in the House, the Chief Minister detailed the statewide programmes planned under the initiative. Sacred soil brought from the saint’s birthplace at Seer Goverdhanpur in Varanasi arrived in Haryana on August 4 and was ceremoniously received at the Mata Sheetla Devi temple complex in Gurugram before being distributed across district and village-level shrines. A dedicated ‘Samrasta Yatra’ will travel across Haryana from October 5 to November 5, 2026, featuring reception venues, public assemblies, and commemorative gates along the route, followed by specialized youth dialogues across colleges, universities, hostels, and coaching centres between November 26, 2026, and January 15, 2027.
Highlighting the state’s infrastructural tributes, Saini announced that a grand Guru Ravidas Dham is being constructed across five acres in Umri, Kurukshetra, at an estimated cost of 124 crore rupees. The memorial complex will feature a prominent 125-foot statue of the saint as its centrepiece. Saini noted the universal reverence accorded to Guru Ravidas’s sacred hymns in the Sri Guru Granth Sahib, emphasizing his visionary ideal of ‘Begampura’—a society completely free of sorrow, discrimination, exploitation, and injustice—and called upon all communities, cultural institutions, and religious leaders to actively participate in the state celebrations.
