Patiala (Gurpreet Singh): A state-level Teej festival organised in Patiala saw a large turnout of women, with Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh welcoming Dr Gurpreet Kaur Mann, wife of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, and Raj Lali Gill, Chairperson of the Punjab State Women’s Commission.
The event highlighted Punjabi culture, traditional performances and women’s participation, while also becoming a platform to showcase the state government’s welfare initiatives.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Gurpreet Kaur Mann said Teej represents happiness, togetherness, brotherhood and affection among Punjabi women.
She described the festival as an important part of Punjab’s cultural and traditional identity and said such celebrations play a role in connecting younger generations with their roots.
She added that the state government was encouraging Teej celebrations in villages and cities across Punjab to help preserve and promote Punjabi traditions.
Punjab Government Schemes Highlighted At Event
Dr Gurpreet Kaur Mann also referred to several initiatives of the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government.
She mentioned the Chief Minister Health Scheme, Mohalla Clinics and Maawan-Dhiyaan Satkar Scheme, saying these programmes had received support from people across the state.
She also thanked Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh for the arrangements made for the gathering and said special attention had been given to the comfort and security of women attending the event.
Dr Balbir Singh Calls Event A Picture Of ‘Rangla Punjab’
Speaking at the function, Dr Balbir Singh described the gathering as a reflection of the government’s vision of “Rangla Punjab”.
He said the event represented Punjab’s cultural colours, respect for women and the happiness of people participating in traditional celebrations.
Singh said such programmes were important for protecting Punjab’s cultural heritage and ensuring that younger generations remain connected with the state’s traditions.
Large Women’s Participation Marks Teej Celebrations
Traditional Teej festivities, cultural performances and the participation of a large number of women created a festive atmosphere at the venue.
Women were also presented with phulkaris, one of the most recognisable symbols of Punjabi culture.
The political messaging at the event also focused on women’s support for the Bhagwant Mann government ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, with leaders projecting growing backing among women voters.
