Donald Trump Threatens Wider Economic Fallout for Countries Supporting Iran

Washington (Rajeev Sharma): US President Donald Trump has announced a fresh campaign of economic pressure against Iran, warning that countries and businesses that help Tehran maintain financial or commercial links could face serious consequences.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump accused Iran of failing to respond to opportunities for negotiations with Washington and said the US would now pursue what he described as an unprecedented economic offensive against the Islamic Republic.

The proposed measures are expected to focus on channels that help Iran generate revenue or move money internationally. Trump specifically mentioned oil-smuggling networks, financial transfers, currency exchange businesses, ship registries and companies allegedly operating as fronts for Iranian interests.

Trump also broadened his warning beyond Iran itself. He said foreign financial institutions, businesses, airports and government bodies that provide assistance or other forms of support to Tehran could become targets of US economic action.

Calling the campaign an “economic D-Day”, Trump urged American allies to join efforts to isolate Iran. He argued that cutting off the country’s economic lifelines would weaken its ability to support activities that Washington considers destabilising.

The announcement followed Trump’s earlier comments that the United States had severe sanctions available and was prepared to take additional action against Iran if necessary.

Trump also repeated his position on Iran’s nuclear programme, insisting that Tehran would not be permitted to obtain a nuclear weapon.

The latest announcement marks a significant escalation in Trump’s rhetoric toward Iran and signals a possible expansion of US sanctions beyond Iranian entities to international companies and institutions that continue doing business with the country.
