Punjab Weather: More Rain on the Way as Yellow Alert Remains in Force; Chandigarh Sees Showers

Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): Weather conditions turned cooler across parts of Punjab and the Tricity on Tuesday as rain and thunderstorms affected several areas. The weather office has forecast another spell of heavy rainfall in parts of the state on August 18 and 19.

A Yellow Alert has been issued for Punjab, while Chandigarh has also been placed under a rain warning. The latest forecast comes after light to moderate showers accompanied by strong winds were recorded at several locations during the previous 24 hours.

The rainfall led to a marginal decline in temperatures, with Punjab’s average maximum temperature falling by 0.6 degrees Celsius. Ferozepur, however, continued to record the highest temperature in the state at 35.6 degrees Celsius.

Heavy Rain Forecast in Punjab

Most parts of Punjab and Chandigarh could receive rain on August 18. The weather department has predicted heavier showers in Punjab on August 19, whereas Chandigarh is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall.

Weather conditions may become comparatively stable from August 20, although cloudy skies and occasional light showers are likely to remain in some areas through August 23.

Tricity to Remain Relatively Cool

Chandigarh and Mohali are expected to record maximum temperatures in the range of 33-34 degrees Celsius over the next few days.

Chandigarh is likely to see a maximum of 33°C and a minimum of 25°C on August 18. The corresponding temperatures on August 19 are expected to be around 33°C and 24°C.

The maximum temperature may touch 34°C on August 20 and 21, with rain, thunderstorms and cloudy conditions possible. Partly cloudy skies are expected on August 22.

Fatehgarh Sahib Receives 37 mm Rain

Fatehgarh Sahib recorded the highest rainfall in Punjab during the latest 24-hour period, receiving 37 mm. Rauni in Patiala recorded 20.5 mm, while Ballowal in SBS Nagar received 13.6 mm.

Mohali registered 12 mm of rain, Patiala 5.5 mm and Chandigarh 1.5 mm. Only trace rainfall was reported from Amritsar.

On the temperature front, Ferozepur topped the state’s readings at 35.6°C. Fatehgarh Sahib recorded the lowest minimum of 23.8°C. Chandigarh and Mohali registered maximum temperatures of 34.6°C and 33.6°C, respectively.

With another spell of rain expected, residents are likely to experience continued relief from the recent heat, although waterlogging and localised disruptions could occur in areas receiving intense showers.
