Nag Panchami and Sawan Somwar Bring Devotees to Shiva Temples Across the Country

New Delhi (Rajeev Sharma): Shiva temples in different parts of India saw a surge in devotional activity as worshippers marked Nag Panchami along with the third Monday of Sawan. Devotees reached temples from the early hours to participate in prayers and seek blessings.

The combination of the two auspicious occasions added to the religious fervour, with special worship ceremonies being held at several temples.

Early Morning Prayers and Abhishek

Devotees offered prayers to Lord Shiva and the Nag Devta, with traditional rituals including jal abhishek, milk offerings, flowers and bel leaves being performed at temples.

Many worshippers also observed a fast as part of their Sawan Somwar tradition. At prominent shrines, temple authorities made arrangements to regulate the movement of devotees as crowds gathered throughout the day.

Why the Day Holds Religious Significance

Mondays during Sawan are traditionally considered an important time for Shiva worship. Devotees often visit temples, perform abhishek and observe fasts during the month, praying for health, happiness and prosperity.

Nag Panchami is observed in honour of serpent deities and is associated with prayers for protection and well-being. The festival is celebrated with different customs in various regions.

Religious Fervour Across States

The festive atmosphere was visible at Shiva temples across the country, where devotees joined special prayers and rituals. Temples were decorated for the occasion, while religious chants and hymns added to the atmosphere.

With Nag Panchami falling on the third Sawan Monday, devotees were able to observe two significant occasions together, resulting in heightened religious activity at temples and pilgrimage centres across India.
