Mumbai (Gurpreet Singh): The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration has suspended the food business licences of four Domino’s Pizza outlets in the state, including three located in Mumbai, following severe non-compliance with food safety and sanitation standards. The regulatory action, led by FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, forms part of an extensive statewide enforcement campaign targeting major quick-service restaurant chains.
The suspended Mumbai establishments, operated by Jubilant FoodWorks Ltd., comprise branches at Vile Parle West, Borivali West, and inside R-City Mall at Ghatkopar West. Inspections revealed widespread operational deficiencies, including active pest infestations, failure to adhere to First In, First Out (FIFO) and First Expired, First Out (FEFO) inventory management practices, improper food storage temperatures, and missing water quality and food testing certifications. The fourth affected Domino’s unit is situated at Malkapur in Satara district, where inspectors reported approximately 40 percent non-compliance regarding basic facilities and equipment maintenance.
The broader inspection drive evaluated 104 chain restaurant establishments across Maharashtra—including locations operated by McDonald’s, KFC, Pizza Hut, Subway, Burger King, and Starbucks. Overall, the FDA issued immediate business closure orders to two non-compliant outlets, served formal improvement notices to 95 establishments, and suspended five licences in total. Corrective notices were also issued to Sapphire Foods India outlets in Satara and Akola for cross-contamination risks and the deployment of substandard ingredients.
