Siliguri (Rajeev Sharma): A legal complaint has been filed seeking a Zero FIR against the organisers of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), alleging that minors were unlawfully involved in the NEET paper leak protest held at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on July 20.
Advocate Rinki Chatterjee Singh, who submitted the complaint, has called for action against CJP organisers, including Saurav Das and Abhijeet Dipke, under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Speaking to reporters, Singh questioned why a 12-year-old child was allegedly present at the demonstration, arguing that children of such age should be treated as those in need of care and protection rather than being exposed to protest situations. She has sought the registration of a case under Sections 13, 14 and 15 of the POCSO Act, along with Section 153 of the BNS.
The complaint also refers to the events that unfolded during the protest, where police allegedly used force to disperse demonstrators. It mentions that Prime Minister Narendra Modi later stated in a social media message that he had forgiven the youngsters who made objectionable remarks against him and did not favour legal action against them in view of their future.
According to the advocate, CJP organisers subsequently released a video alleging that police had lathi-charged minor girls during the protest and demanded an apology from the Prime Minister. Singh has questioned the circumstances under which children were allegedly brought to the protest and has sought an investigation into the organisers’ role.
The complaint further urges authorities to examine the funding of the protest, alleging that external influences may have played a role. However, no evidence supporting these allegations has been made public.
Police have not yet announced whether a Zero FIR has been registered. The allegations contained in the complaint are yet to be independently verified, and no response from the organisers named in the complaint was immediately available.
