Shimla (Rajeev Sharma): Monsoon conditions are expected to remain active across Himachal Pradesh, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting widespread light to moderate rainfall over the next six days. A Yellow Alert has been sounded for Una, Bilaspur and Kangra on Monday, warning of isolated spells of heavy rain.
The weather department has also indicated that rainfall activity is likely to continue in the coming days, with Kangra and Mandi expected to remain under a Yellow Alert on August 5 due to the possibility of intense showers at isolated locations.
State Still Behind Seasonal Rainfall Average
Although several regions have witnessed frequent rain in recent weeks, Himachal Pradesh has so far recorded an overall 8 per cent deficit in monsoon rainfall compared to the seasonal average.
District-wise figures show significant shortfalls in Lahaul-Spiti (50%), Hamirpur (42%), Mandi (27%), Kangra (20%), Sirmaur (10%), Solan (7%), and Bilaspur (6%), highlighting uneven rainfall across the state.
Excess Rainfall Recorded in Some Districts
In contrast, a few districts have received rainfall above the normal level during the current monsoon season. Kinnaur has reported the highest surplus, followed by Kullu, Shimla, Chamba, and Una, all of which have recorded rainfall exceeding their seasonal averages.
Rain Brings Down Day Temperatures
The recent showers have also resulted in a noticeable decline in daytime temperatures across many parts of the state. Weather data shows that maximum temperatures dropped considerably during the last 24 hours.
The most significant fall was recorded in Neri, where the mercury dipped by 5.4 degrees Celsius. Una witnessed a decline of 4.2 degrees, while Bilaspur and Manali also experienced a sharp drop in temperatures, providing relief from the humid conditions that had prevailed over the past few days.
Authorities Advise Caution
With rain likely to continue through the week, the Meteorological Department has urged residents and tourists to remain vigilant. People have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall, stay away from rivers and seasonal streams, and exercise caution in areas vulnerable to landslides and waterlogging.
Officials are keeping a close watch on the evolving weather situation as monsoon activity continues across Himachal Pradesh.
