Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): Haryana has emerged as one of the leading states in India in the fight against tuberculosis by exceeding key targets set under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme. During a 100-day intensified screening campaign, health authorities screened over 5.84 lakh individuals, identifying 34,825 new tuberculosis cases. Reviewing the progress of the healthcare initiative in Chandigarh, Haryana Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi instructed administration officials to maintain momentum and strengthen Tuberculosis Preventive Treatment along with community-based screening.
Between January and July 2026, the state recorded 54,368 total TB notifications against a set target of 52,500, achieving 104 percent of its national objective. According to National Health Mission Director Dr. R.S. Dhillon, Haryana surpassed presumptive screening targets by testing 5.81 lakh individuals against an initial goal of 5.25 lakh. The 100-day drive, launched on March 24, featured 4,711 specialized screening camps, nearly 2,814 of which were deployed across high-risk rural areas, utilizing 2.87 lakh chest X-rays and 1.70 lakh molecular NAAT tests to ensure early diagnosis.
The state reported a 91 percent treatment success rate, surpassing the national benchmark of 90 percent, alongside high screening rates for co-morbidities like HIV and diabetes among patients. Digital innovations such as the TB Mukt Bharat application and Khushi chatbot registered over 39,000 users to build a digital support network, while 27,214 patients received nutritional support kits under the Nikshay Mitra initiative. To expand diagnostic capabilities further, the central government has approved 200 handheld X-ray units for Haryana, ensuring portable screening across all 22 districts during ongoing healthcare drives.
