Ahilyanagar (Rajeev Sharma): A NEET aspirant from Maharashtra’s Ahilyanagar district allegedly died by suicide shortly after the declaration of the NEET re-examination results, police said on Monday. The incident has once again drawn attention to the immense pressure faced by students preparing for competitive entrance examinations.
The deceased, Ankita Sangale, was a resident of Jalalpur village in Karjat. According to the Maharashtra Police, she had scored 166 marks in the NEET re-examination.
Police officials said the incident came to light on Sunday, following which a team from the Karjat Police Station reached the spot and initiated legal proceedings. The body was sent for a post-mortem examination, and a case of suicide has been registered.
Investigators are currently examining the circumstances surrounding the death. Statements of family members and others close to the student are being recorded as part of the inquiry to determine whether any specific factors may have contributed to the incident.
Authorities have not established a direct link between the examination result and the student’s death and have urged the public to refrain from speculation until the investigation is completed.
The tragic incident comes at a time when discussions on examination-related stress and student well-being continue across the country. Mental health experts have repeatedly highlighted the need for stronger emotional support systems for students preparing for high-stakes competitive examinations.
Police said further action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing investigation, and a detailed report will be prepared after all evidence has been examined.
