Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced on Monday that the state government is executing multiple effective schemes to make cow shelters self-reliant and structurally empowered. Chairing a high-powered purchase committee meeting in Chandigarh, the Chief Minister approved the procurement of 820 e-rickshaws dedicated to livestock care across the state’s gaushalas. The high-level meeting was attended by senior cabinet ministers, including Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Vipul Goel, Agriculture Minister Shyam Singh Rana, Public Works and Public Health Engineering Minister Ranbir Gangwa, and Irrigation Minister Shruti Choudhry.
Under the newly approved framework, cow shelters housing up to one thousand animals will receive one e-rickshaw, while facilities managing more than one thousand cows will be allocated two units. The committee sanctioned Rs 10.25 crore for this procurement, which will support the state’s network of 770 registered gaushalas that house varying livestock populations ranging from under one thousand to nearly six thousand animals. Alongside the livestock care initiatives, the Chief Minister approved a major infrastructure project to set up a second water treatment plant with a capacity of 1000 MLD at Basai in Gurugram. The project, falling under the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority, will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 149 crore to secure clean drinking water supplies for the expanding urban population.
The purchase committee reviewed and cleared several urban development and public health engineering projects across multiple districts. Saini approved a Rs 12.87 crore project to lay down extensive sewerage networks across various residential colonies in Kaithal city, designed to accommodate projected population growth up to the year 2042. Additionally, the government sanctioned Rs 27.70 crore for upgrading the water sewerage treatment plant and constructing RCC tanks in Khedar. For the Faridabad Metropolitan Development Authority, the committee cleared the installation of five Ranney well tubewells with a total capacity of 10 MLD in the Yamuna river floodplains near Manjhawali and Mothuka villages, involving an investment of Rs 164.75 crore. By optimizing tenders, the state administration cleared projects initially valued at Rs 380.40 crore for a finalized amount of Rs 363.82 crore, saving Rs 16.58 crore for the state exchequer. The Chief Minister directed administrative secretaries and CEOs to enforce strict quality controls and avoid execution delays, ensuring all approved works are completed within their designated timeframes.
