Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): Haryana Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Minister Shyam Singh Rana announced on Monday that the state government is actively prioritizing the financial growth of dairy farmers by boosting milk production and accelerating cattle breed improvement initiatives. Chairing a high-level purchase committee meeting of the Animal Husbandry and Dairying Department at the Haryana Civil Secretariat, the Cabinet Minister approved a crucial two-year rate contract for the uninterrupted supply of liquid nitrogen. The strategic meeting was also attended by Haryana Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda.
The procurement decision marks a significant step toward the genetic improvement of livestock by ensuring the safe preservation, production, and transit of high-quality bovine frozen semen. Because regular and unobstructed access to liquid nitrogen is vital for maintaining the deep-freeze conditions required for semen storage, this contract guarantees that state-run semen production centres and their allied field units can operate without logistical bottlenecks. Officials confirmed that all supplies will strictly adhere to defined quality benchmarks to maintain the viability of the biological samples.
Minister Rana emphasized that the uninterrupted availability of liquid nitrogen will provide a massive push to artificial insemination coverage across the state. This infrastructure upgrade will directly benefit rural cattle rearers by providing them access to superior genetic livestock, which in turn enhances high-yield milk production capability. Highlighting the broader vision, the minister noted that the state government runs several welfare schemes aimed at transforming animal husbandry into a highly profitable enterprise, helping lakhs of farmers achieve self-reliance. The high-level meeting concluded in the presence of Principal Secretary of Animal Husbandry and Dairying Vijay Singh Dahiya and Haryana Livestock Development Board Managing Director Dr. Virender Singh.
